Spot needs your help!
UPDATE: 8/18/10 Spot was released to go out and play,
they said he was doing great and over the next 18 months he would become stronger and stronger on his leg and his limp would
become less and less. Thank you so much for all your prayers, good thoughts and donations to help get Spot thru these
hard times!!!
UPDATE: Well today is Aug 10, 2010 and we only have 8 more days till his final vet check...hopefully
we will get the ok to let him go play again. He is doing great and wants to play sooo bad that he is driving us just
a little crazy :) I will update once we get the final decision on the 18th
=========================================
It is with
tear filled eyes that I type this plea. Anyone who has been at the ranch over the past 3 or so years has
met Spot, he is a very sweet lab/pit/St. Bernard cross who greets everyone who comes over, helps herd the horses for me and
who patrols the property and alerts us when someone is at the gate.
Spot climbed the hay stack to check out the area and unfortunately fell off. He
injured his hip but thanks to Dr. Charles, that was fixed. He was fine at first but then started to limp
more and more over the past few weeks so off to the vet we went….it was our worst fear, he has a torn ACL, not just
ripped, but torn in two. At first we were told the surgery was $2500+ just for the surgery, but after talking
to the vet and explaining we are a non-profit, he was kind enough to lower the fee. Unfortunately we still
need to come up with $1822.87 and we only have about 2 weeks to do it in. After that 2 week period the
body will start to repair itself and the surgery will require more time and effort.
If he does not have this surgery the injury will NOT heal and he will
spend every day in pain, then at some point he will most likely blow the other knee due to compensation
for the injured knee…we can’t allow him to suffer like that, he has been such an awesome boy since day 1, and
he is a favorite of the volunteers here at the ranch, and as hard as it will be, if we can’t raise the funds we will
have no choice but to put him down.
He
is now waiting patiently on pain meds for now….we know times are hard, but if you can, please consider
sending a small donation to help pay for spots surgery. He’s not even 4 years old yet and still has
so much life to live.
We will be posting updates as funds come in.
Mustang-Spirit is a Non-Profit Orginiazation and donations are tax deductable.
UPDATE 6/29/10
We were able to get Spots surgery done last Thursday, he
came home Friday with a cast on his leg. Went for his first vet check yesterday, cast was removed and he is to stay
in the house or walk quietly on a leash for now...his next visit is 7/14/10...till then he will be on pain meds and hanging
out in the house or garage with me. He will be at our booth on 7/3 & 7/4 in Wrightwood saying HI to everyone.
We figured since nobody was available to babysit him for the weekend while i was gone, he could hang out with us at the booth
(with permissoin of course).
Thank you Everyone who has donated to make it possible to get the surgery needed to
allow him to live a painfree life. There were some additional charges at the vets office (see below) and we are still
collecting funds to help cover his costs. We will need to purchase more pain meds for him also as they said he would
need to remain on meds for 6 weeks at about $56/2 weeks worth.
