Equine Rescue

Welcome to our non-profit site!

We all have important values and ideas- things we care about and want to share. Sometimes we feel our ideas can even change the world, and we want to let other people know how they can join in and make all our lives better.

Mission Statement

It is our goal to educate the public on the continual care (both physically and emotionally) of their horses.  We offer support, guidance and training for new horse owners and support for those who have owned horses for some time.  We are implementing a children's program to help educate them on natural horsemanship, riding and also the proper care of horses.

This beautiful 9 yr old Reg. Paint gelding is now at the rescue.  He has cancer on both eye lids and we are going to try some new products from "Clean Horse" to see if we can improve or better yet get rid of his Cancer.  It looks like his meds will run about $230 per month and we hope it only takes 1-2 months but we just aren't sure...We sure could use some help with his meds and we would also love to find a spaonsor or 2 partial sponsors for this wonderful boy.

He lived with Crimson (see lisitng under available horses)....positive thoughts and prayers are welcome...
More updates, pictures and information will be avilable soon...

UPDATE:  8/16/10

Well, its been 4 days since we started with the new meds and so far, it seems to  be clearing up a bit.  should have pics in the next day or so....stay tuned for new updates

UPDATE:  8/26/10

2 weeks into his rehab and he's doing great.  i've tried to take some pics but they just don't show the progress, they look flat and don't show how much of the flesh has filled in :(  but i will continue to try...by next friday the upper lid should be healed enough to show the improvments.  We even have a little new hair growth starting.  the tear duct seems to be working and the flesh is growing around it, so hopefully it will heal correctly.

He is just about out of the first round of meds and we will have to reorder, so funds are still needed for his meds.

Southern California Evacuations

When you live i Southern California, you learn there are evaucations during all seasons.  During the sumer you have wild fires, the winter brings mud slides...no mater what the cause of the evacuations, Mustang-Spirit is open to help keep horses and other livestock safe.

We have a 10 acre lot with stalls and pasture space ready to handle housing animals in these situations and we have had training in evacaution and housing evacuated animals in times of emergancy.

If you find yourself in a situation where you need to relocate your horses or livestock due to an evacuation feel free to call Tania on her cell 760-807-7558

Mustang-Spirit is a 501(c)3 non-profit horse rescue.  We have been in existance since 2002 when two friends decided too many horses were going to slaughter and they wanted to save as many as possible.  Of course we know we can't save them all, but during the past 5 years we have helped nearly 400 horses.

We utilize foster homes and State Representatives to offer more options and locations to take in these horses in need.

Although we started out as a "mustang" rescue we have since opened up to accept all breeds in need and even the occasional livestock or parrot when we are able.

Spot needs your help!

UPDATE:  8/18/10      Spot was released to go out and play, they said he was doing great and over the next 18 months he would become stronger and stronger on his leg and his limp would become less and less.  Thank you so much for all your prayers, good thoughts and donations to help get Spot thru these hard times!!!

UPDATE:  Well today is Aug 10, 2010 and we only have 8 more days till his final vet check...hopefully we will get the ok to let him go play again.  He is doing great and wants to play sooo bad that he is driving us just a little crazy :)  I will update once we get the final decision on the 18th
=========================================

It is with tear filled eyes that I type this plea.  Anyone who has been at the ranch over the past 3 or so years has met Spot, he is a very sweet lab/pit/St. Bernard cross who greets everyone who comes over, helps herd the horses for me and who patrols the property and alerts us when someone is at the gate.

Spot climbed the hay stack to check out the area and unfortunately fell off.  He injured his hip but thanks to Dr. Charles, that was fixed.  He was fine at first but then started to limp more and more over the past few weeks so off to the vet we went….it was our worst fear, he has a torn ACL, not just ripped, but torn in two.  At first we were told the surgery was $2500+ just for the surgery, but after talking to the vet and explaining we are a non-profit, he was kind enough to lower the fee.  Unfortunately we still need to come up with $1822.87 and we only have about 2 weeks to do it in.  After that 2 week period the body will start to repair itself and the surgery will require more time and effort.

If he does not have this surgery the injury will NOT heal and he will spend every day in pain, then at some point  he will most likely blow the other knee due to compensation for the injured knee…we can’t allow him to suffer like that, he has been such an awesome boy since day 1, and he is a favorite of the volunteers here at the ranch, and as hard as it will be, if we can’t raise the funds we will have no choice but to put him down.

He is now waiting patiently on pain meds for now….we know times are hard,  but if you can, please consider sending a small donation to help pay for spots surgery.  He’s not even 4 years old yet and still has so much life to live.
We will be posting updates as funds come in.

Mustang-Spirit is a Non-Profit Orginiazation and donations are tax deductable.

UPDATE 6/29/10

We were able to get Spots surgery done last Thursday, he came home Friday with a cast on his leg.  Went for his first vet check yesterday, cast was removed and he is to stay in the house or walk quietly on a leash for now...his next visit is 7/14/10...till then he will be on pain meds and hanging out in the house or garage with me.  He will be at our booth on 7/3 & 7/4 in Wrightwood saying HI to everyone.  We figured since nobody was available to babysit him for the weekend while i was gone, he could hang out with us at the booth (with permissoin of course).

Thank you Everyone who has donated to make it possible to get the surgery needed to allow him to live a painfree life.  There were some additional charges at the vets office (see below) and we are still collecting funds to help cover his costs.  We will need to purchase more pain meds for him also as they said he would need to remain on meds for 6 weeks at about $56/2 weeks worth.
